A contemporary love song is something cleaner, leaning more to the acoustic side of things, without much frills and fancies and with very simplistic lyrics. Some would say that it's a bunch of adolescent Facebook statuses meshed together, others think 'tis the effing love bible but I s'pose...'tis somewhere in between the both. Check our list out.
1. Fall For You
Artist: Secondhand Serenade
Album: A Twist in My Story
Fall-outs are synonyms to almost every love story out there, and this is a song about wanting to come out victorious together after one. A nice song, clean beats and pretty decent vocals, 'tis a catchy tune, starting off with a clean piano-piece and ending with some pretty good rock-band esque vibe while holding on to the same mood throughout. Classic with a contemporary twist.
Facebook status quote: "Could it be that we have been this way before?"
Love bible-esque quote: "A girl like you's impossible to find. You're impossible to find."
2. When You're Gone
Artist: Avril Lavigne
Album: The Best Damn Thing
When You're Gone takes the saying 'Distance makes the heart grow fonder' and puts in into a well-constructed song. Rock-ballad, it delivers a lot, starting off simply in a lovely piano composition, smoky, high vocals building up into a wildfire of a chorus, unleashing a flurry of emotions. Diary-esque lyrics, they work well with the song, keeping things fancy-free.
Facebook status quote: "And the days feel like years when I'm alone."
Love bible-esque quote: "I miss you."
3. When I Look At You
Artist: Miley Cyrus
Album: The Last Song soundtrack
A stable beat and rhythm throughout with hints of strings and percussion, the song feels clean, rugged and passionate. The lyrics're a little more frilly than contemporary, but it lacks a poetry-esque quality that would often pin a love song to the more softer counterpart. 'Tis the love song for a film based on a Nicholas Spark's novel, after all. It embodies the film.
Facebook status quote: "You appear just like a dream to me."
Love bible-esque quote: "Don't ya know, you're beautiful."
4. She Will Be Loved
Artists: Maroon 5
Album: Songs About Jane
She Will Be Loved isn't quite the conventional love song. There's hints of drama, prose, blatant lines that reveals more than perhaps necessary. The rhythm's slow-esque, with a hint of racy embedded, a lil' too sultry for contemporary, which's counter-balanced by Levine's higher, edgy vocals. An interesting love song, this is, crafted well to stand out.
Facebook status quote: "Please don't try so hard to say goodbye."
Love bible-esque quote: "It's compromise that moves us along."
5. Come Back To Me
Artist: David Cook
Album: David Cook
Rock-esque, fast, steady rhythms work extremely well with the simplistically deep lyrics, giving it a decent blend of organic and passionate. The longing one senses from the vocals is warming and though the lyrics're somewhat repetitive, the textures and variance in the song is awesome. One could never tire, listening to this tune, as ridiculously(adorably) hopeful as it sounds.
Facebook status quote: "Don't recognise the face in the mirror looking back at you."
Love bible-esque quote: "I'll wait for you, So I'll let you go, I'll set you free."
